Benjamin Cardin is a Democratic politician currently serving as the Senior US
Senator for Maryland. He was first elected into this position in 2006, and has
won every re-election campaign since then.

Cardin is the grandson of Russian Jewish immigrants1 and began his political
career in 1966 when he was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates while
still attending law school 2 Cardin served as a chairman until 1979 when he
became the 103rd Speaker of the House.3

In an article by the National Journal, Carding was been described as “The 5th
most liberal senator in the country”.4 Interestingly, 2 of the 4 politicians ranked
as more liberal than Cardin are also of Jewish ancestry.

With this in mind, it shouldn’t be surprising that Cardin has an “F” rating from the National Rifle Association.5

Cardin also halted the sale of over 20,000 weapons to the Filipino government who had requested it for their police departments6 and is strictly opposed to US citizens owning assault rifles.7 He has also opposed the UN’s condemnation of Israeli occupation of Palestine, saying that, “Congress will take action against efforts at the UN, or beyond, that use Resolution 2334 to target Israel.”8 Cardin also supports the dealth penalty.9
