Shulamith Firestone was a radical feminist activist who founded three radical feminist groups: Redstockings, New York Radical Women, and New York Radical Feminists.

Her first group, New York Radical Women, was founded in 1967 after Firestone moved to New York from Chicago. Her other groups, Redstockings and New York Radical Feminists, were founded soon after.

In 1970 she published the book The Dialectic of Sex: The Case for Feminist Revolution1Shulamith Firestone, followed by Airless Spaces in 1998, which was published after her hospitalization for schizophrenia.
