Matt Lauer was born in New York City in 1957.
Lauer joined NBC in 1992 and became co-anchoring “Today in New York”.
Sometimes, Lauer conducted interviews that escalated into tense arguments. During an interview with Tom Cruise in 2005, Lauer argued with Cruise about psychiatry and depression, and Cruise called Lauer “glib”. Three years later, Cruise said that he regrets offending Matt and arm-wrestled Matt Lauer in the same studio where the confrontation took place.
During the 2014 Winter Olympics, Matt Lauer replaced Bob Costas for the sixth day of coverage and hosted from February 11 to February 14
In 2016, Lauer conducted separate 30-minute interviews with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
