Richard Blumenthal is a democratic politician who has served as Attorney General of Connecticut from 1991 to 2011. He is currently the Senior Senator of Connecticut and has held this position since 2011.


Blumenthal attended school at Yale at the same time as several other famous political figures such as Bill and Hillary1 as well as future secretary of labor Robert Reich, another notable Jewish figure. His father, Martin, had immigrated from Frankfurt to the United States at the age of 172


During his election campaign in 2010 Blumenthal was exposed for making the claim that he had served in Vietnam, even though this wasn’t true. Blumenthal later apologized to voters for misleading them, saying that he should have been more “clear or precise” 3 During his time as senator, Blumenthal signed the anti-Israeli boycott act, an act that made it illegal for United States Citizens to engage in boycotts against the Israeli occupation of Palestine4 Blumenthal was also among 12 people that put forward the Home Owners Dreamer act, a law that would make it illegal for the federal government to deny mortgage loans based on the immigration status of an applicant.5 Blumenthal is also an advocate of gun control 6 and LGBT rights7


Aside from his political career, Richard is noted as one of the richest people in Connecticut. Much of this wealth comes from his wife, a member of real estate developers known as the Malkin family.8
