Raphael Lemkin

Polish lawyer who coined the term “genocide” in 1943/1944.

Raphael Lemkin initiated the Genocide Convention, which defined genocide in legal terms under the United Nations General Assembly.

Fun Fact:

At the time of his death, Lemkin left two works unfinished: Introduction to the Study of Genocide, and a three-volume History of Genocide, largely focusing on Nazi war crimes.
