Samuel Rosenman

Samuel Rosenman was the first person to hold the position of White House Counsel. He submitted his resignation upon Roosevelt’s death, but was asked by Truman to stay on, eventually into 1946. Even after leaving the White House, he periodically returned to aid the president with major speeches.
