American philosopher and gender theorist.

Their work has been highly influential on third wave feminist, queer theory, and literary theory.

Fun Fact:

Butler uses she/her and they/them pronouns, but has stated they prefer the latter. Their best known books are Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity (1990) and *Bodies That Matter: On the Discursive Limits of Sex (1993), in which they challenge conventional gender norms and develop their theory of gender performativity.
