American politician and diplomat who served as U.S. Secretary of State and National Security Advisor in the 1970s.
Kissinger received the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating a ceasefire in Vietnam. His reception of the prize was so controversial that two committee members resigned in protest. Kissinger ended up not attending the ceremony, giving the prize money to charity, and later offering to return the medal.
